10/11 - Crosley Field - GAME #3
Mets 3, Reds 1
Getting away from the fish bowl called New York City was just the tonic that the Amazin's needed. Brooklyn native Pete Falcone had the right stuff going 8 strong innings (1 ER) and keeping the Red offense off stride all day. Cincy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a Lew Riggs sac fly that scored Myers. New York needed this game desperately, lest they go down 3 games to none. They clawed themselves back by tying it in the 5th when Joel Youngblood led off with a double and moved to third on a Jerry Morales single. Elliott Maddox hit into a DP, but on the play Hendu scored to tie the game at 1-1. In the 6th Alex Trevino executed the perfect hit and run to score the speed merchant Frank Taveras all the way from 1st to give New York their first lead in the series. Hendu would single home Trevino in the top of the 9th for a much needed insurance run as Neil Allen pitched the 9th to save the game for Falcone and the Metsies.
Cincinnati leads the series 2-1
