Cincy knew going into this series that even with a sweep they would not be able to win the division, but they would at least clinch a post season birth. 3 late inning runs helped break a 3-3 tie in game #1 to propel the Reds to victory. Ival Goodman, Spud Davis and Charlie Gelbert each contributed 3 hits with Davis hitting his first homer of the season. Gene Schott (3-0, 2.04) went the distance for the win. Powered by a 4 run 5th inning the Reds blew away the Brew Crew. Goodman went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI's off of 2 homers (his 9th and 10th on the season). Shortstop Billy Myers went 4 for 5, but shockingly did not score a run even though Cincy posted 8. Johnny Vander Meer went 8 scoreless innings in game 3 before tiring. Mr. "Double No-hit" allowed just 4 hits before giving way to Paul Gehrman, who pitched a perfect 9th in a no save situation. The "schnozz", Ernie Lombardi went 3 for 4 to increase his season average to .350. The finale once again saw the Reds score early and often. 5 runs over the first 2 innings was more than enough to dispatch the hapless Brew Crew. Cincy would bang out 14 hits and every player including hurler Lee Grissom (6-1, 2.26) would garner a hit. Leadoff man Buck Jordan would go 3 for 5 to increase his season average to .330. Cincy would finish the season with 4 starters batting over .300 and a .262 team batting average.
