10/9 - Tiger Stadium
Tigers 9, White Sox 2
Needing a win to even the series up a 1 game apiece the Tigers got a rock solid 6 inning performance from Seth Greisinger (6-3, 3.65), who gave up just 2 runs during his outing. The much maligned Tiger pen pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief to do their part. Bryce Florie chipped in with a scoreless 7th and 8th inning and Todd Jones did one better with a perfect 9th. Detroit got on the board first with a solo run in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to Joe Randa's second homer in as many days. A two run homer by Luis Gonzalez in the bottom of the 4th accounted for 2 of the 3 runs the Tigers would score that inning off of Chicago's rusty starter Jack Fisher, who hadn't pitched in 12 days. The Pale Hose would cut Detroit's lead to 4-2 with back to back RBI doubles in the top of the 5th by Duane Josephson and Leon Wagner. Detroit would answer right back with a 5 run 5th that would chase Fisher from the hill and give the hometown team a 9-2 lead. The big blow would be a Juan Encarnacion grand slam that was hit so high and so far the ball actually had burn marks on it from reentry. Deivi Cruz' RBI single four batters later would be the final run scored in a game that the Tigers completely dominated as they tied the series up. Fisher was gone with one out in the 5th and Cisco Carlos was called on to toss 3 2/3 innings of mop up ball, which he did to perfection.
Series Tied at 1-1.
