9/26-9/27 - Griffith Stadium
GAME 1 - Senators 3, Yankees 2
Tim Leary should have turned on his concentration in the 1st inning, tuned into the power the Senators lineup had and Dropped out of sight after he gave up 3 big runs to start the game. Harmon Killebrew hit a 2 run shot and a wild pitch with 2 out would plate #3. New York clawed back with solo runs in the 3rd and the 5th, but could not get anymore. The "hit man" Don Mattingly had both of New York's RBI's and Camilo Pascual (4-4, 2.72) went the distance for the win.
GAME 2 - Senators 3, Yankees 2
Different day, same exact result. This time Pete Ramos (2-5, 7.10) went the distance to notch his second win during his own personal dismal season. New York drew first blood with 2 in the first thanks to a 2 run shot by Jesse Barfield. Jim Lemon's 2 run single with the bases loaded in the 3rd tied the game at 2. A walkoff 2 out triple in the bottom of the 9th by Hal Naragon off of Eric Plunk was the difference maker.
9/28-9/29 - Yankee Stadium
GAME 3 - Yankees 6, Senators 5
Down 5-4 and heading into the bottom of the 9th the Bombers resurrected some sense of pride that long since escaped them during this forgotten season. Tex Clevenger was tasked with shutting the door on the Bombers, but couldn't get it done. Roberto Kelly led off the 9th with a single, then stole second. Steve Sax singled to put runners on the corners, then stole second. A sac fly by DH Kevin Maas tied the game at 5 all. A Mel Hall single with 2 outs sealed the deal to give New York a walk off win.
GAME 4 - Yankees 7, Senators 3
Donnie Baseball, who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, started it all off with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. A 2 run shot by Jesse Barfield followed to give Andy Hawkins a 3-0 lead. The Nats chipped away with 3 solo runs to tie it in the 6th, but a 4 run 7th gave New York the 7-3 margin that they would win by. Mattingly would single home two and Maas would single home one. Jeff Robinson would get the win in relief and Rags would finish up the 9th in a non save situation.
